Building SaaS Services with CHAOSS Technology to Evaluate Community Health and Sustainability

CHAOSS is the leading community for understanding and analyzing open source health, defining actionable metrics/metrics models, and developing software such as Augur and GrimoireLab to make data-driven decisions. This talk will focus on the importance of embracing open source software and how a small community has been able to grow great SaaS solutions like OSS Compass, Bitergia Analytics, Augur, and even the early versions of Linux Foundation Insights. During this talk, we will focus on the original CHAOSS software (Augur and GrimoireLab) to illustrate the importance of open source in sharing and building knowledge together. We will also explore different options for open source software, such as Augur, OSS Compass, and Bitergia Analytics, which are based on GrimoireLab, as well as proprietary software like the initial version of Linux Foundation Insights, which was also based on GrimoireLab initially. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to explore the world of OSS and learn more about its role in enabling collaboration and innovation across communities. Join us for an informative and engaging presentation!

Panel Discussion: Demonstrating OSPO Value

Open Source Program Offices (OSPO) are emerging in corporations, academics and governments, at a global level. As program offices begin to harness the strategic potential of open source, they are faced with obstacles in developing an open source culture, providing education throughout the company, and demonstrating the value of an OSPO. The CHAOSS and TODO projects are working together to identify how metrics can play an important role in helping demonstrate OSPO value within an organization. With the continually evolving technology landscape, the role of OPSOs remains critically important and this panel is meant to help OSPO members share that importance. Specifically, this panel will address challenges that lie in identifying meaningful metrics, how metrics can be understood in the context of OSPO work, and how such understanding can be effectively communicated throughout an organization to demonstrate OSPO value. In this talk we will share examples, tools, models, and use cases that will help get you started, so you too can better show the value of OSPOs and open source work.

  • Speakers: Daniel Izquierdo from Bitergia; Dawn Foster from CHAOSS; Chan Voong from Comcast and David Hirsch from Dynatrace
  • When? Tuesday, September 19 • 11:25 – 12:05
  • Where? Room 3H – OSPOCon track
